General Information

Patients and visitors are responsible for all personal belongings and valuables brought to the hospital. We strongly encourage you not to bring valuables to the hospital. Valuables will be sent home with your family or placed in security.

Mail, plants and flowers will be accepted and delivered to your room. Live plants and flowers may not be received in the ICU. Latex balloons are not allowed in the hospital, but Mylar balloons are acceptable. Food may be brought in within your dietary restrictions. A doctor’s order is required for alcoholic beverages.

ICU Family Waiting Area

The ICU family waiting area is located at the entrance to the unit on the second and third floors. Rest areas, quiet rooms, telephones and refreshments are available to make your visit more comfortable. Care partner rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis, providing an area for rest and sleep for families who wish to spend the night. Sofa beds are provided in the patient rooms.

The surgical waiting area is located on the second floor of the hospital.

Overnight Accommodations

If friends and families wish to stay nearby, consider these local lodging options.

Patient Safety

To ensure the safety of our patients and visitors, all entrances except the Emergency Entrance will be locked between 10:15 p.m. and  06:25 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:45 p.m. and 06:45 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

If you’re staying at an Aurora Medical Center for treatment, your dog can be brought in to visit with the permission of your care provider. Typically, dogs are the only pets allowed to visit, but you may ask your provider about other pets — the decision to allow other visiting pets is made on a case-by-case basis.

Ask your provider for details.

Spiritual Care

The chapel is open to patients and visitors 24 hours a day. The chapel is located on the first floor. Members of all faiths are welcome.

Chaplains are available 24 hours a day. Please ask the waiting area receptionist or nurse caring for your family member to contact one for you.

Public telephones are conveniently located throughout the hospital, including the waiting areas, vending rooms, cafeteria and near all main entrance ways.

Telephones are available in patient rooms. The spokesperson of the patient in the ICU is requested to contact the specific nursing station to ask about a patient’s status.

Tobacco Free Campus

Aurora Medical Center Summit is tobacco-free, indoors and outdoors. This included our lawns, walkways, sidewalks, and parking lots (including inside vehicles). All smoking materials, including any tobacco products, chewing tobacco, inhaled tobacco substitutes, or smokeless cigarettes must be extinguished of disposed of prior to entering the property.

We understand that quitting tobacco can be hard. If you choose to quit and need assistance, The Quit Line is free of charge to Wisconsin residents. Call 800-QUIT NOW.

Visiting Hours & Policies

There are no set visiting hours. The patient, not the caregiver, should identify who will visit. Upon admission, the patient should determine any visitation guidelines with his or her caregivers. These guidelines should include who will visit as well as the appropriate times. Patients should also identify a spokesperson. The spokesperson is the individual chosen to communicate a patient's condition and wishes to family and friends.

Visiting with Children

Children are welcome to visit. It is the responsibility of the family member to supervise their children at all times. Children are not permitted to wander unattended or disturb other patients. Any child with a communicable disease or obvious illness will be restricted from patient contact and other areas.
