Enhanced External Counterpulsation

If you’re suffering from chest pain or heart failure, even simple activities like walking up stairs or loading the dishwasher can be challenging.

Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) is a non-invasive, outpatient treatment for frequent chest pain and heart failure. It’s an alternative if you don’t qualify for bypass surgery, stents or angioplasty. EECP helps prevent symptoms of chest pain or discomfort (angina). The treatment means you can participate in more physical activities and enjoy a better quality of life.

What to Expect

EECP is completed in 35 one-hour weekly sessions. After each appointment, you’ll be able to go back to your normal day. When you arrive for your appointment, your blood pressure will be checked. You’ll lie on a table and large blood pressure cuffs will be wrapped around your calves, thighs and buttocks. These cuffs inflate and deflate based on your heart rate.

You’re not sedated, because EECP is not painful or invasive. You won’t even have blood drawn. You can talk to the medical team during the treatment or even fall asleep. The goal in EECP is to make your blood flow through your heart in a more efficient manner.

Check with your doctor if EECP is right for you, or call 855-229-0924.
