Cardiothoracic Anesthesiaat St. Luke's Medical Center

The Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Program of Anesthesiology Associates of Wisconsin is a group of 12 board-certified anesthesiologists who specialize in anesthesia care before, during and after heart (cardiac) surgery.

During cardiac surgeries, an anesthesiologist monitors the beating heart continuously using an ultrasound picture, giving the cardiac surgeon important, real-time information about the status of the heart and the effects of the surgery. Cardiothoracic anesthesiologists manage today’s most complex procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafts, implantable ventricular assist devices, heart transplants and aortic arch replacements.

They’re also experienced in newer cardiac surgery techniques, including transcatheter aortic valve insertion (TAVI), a procedure in which the surgeon replaces a heart valve without opening the chest and without the need for cardiopulmonary bypass.
