Thoracic conditions are conditions related to your lungs and chest. This often includes lung nodules, tumors and pleural effusions (fluid next to the lung).

Symptoms of thoracic conditions include:

  • Coughing, with or without mucus or blood
  • Pain in your ribs or chest
  • Shortness of breath
  • Trouble swallowing

If you have any of these symptoms, talk with your doctor. He or she will perform a physical exam and order diagnostic tests such as a chest X-ray, a chest CT scan or a biopsy.

Your doctor may also perform a bronchoscopy, which involves looking in the airways and lungs with a camera to diagnose problems, take a biopsy or clean out secretions.

Services & Treatment

If you’re diagnosed with a thoracic condition, your doctor will work with you on a treatment plan based on your individual needs. It may include:

  • Draining pleural effusions
  • Removing nodules or tumors
  • Treating esophageal and swallowing problems

We also offer state-of-the art technologies to treat hard-to-reach cancers, including Cyberknife, a non-invasive, robotic system that delivers high radiation doses to tumors with pinpoint accuracy.
