Will my doctor be offended that I'm seeking a second medical opinion?
Getting a second opinion is not an indication that you distrust your doctor. He or she will understand that you need to be absolutely sure you're getting the most effective treatment possible. In fact, your doctor would probably urge you to get a second opinion from experts like those practicing at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center.
Does insurance cover second opinions?
Some insurance plans will pay for second opinions while others will not. It's best to check with your health insurance provider about your particular plan.
How much does a second opinion consultation cost?
The cost of your second opinion consultation depends on the nature and complexity of your condition as well as the number of specialists involved in your consultation. Costs range anywhere from $250 to $1,000.
Who will receive the results of my second opinion consultation?
You designate the person or persons to receive your report. These may include your personal physician and anyone else involved in your treatment. Aurora St. Luke's will release your report only to the individuals you name.
What steps should I follow to get my second opinion?
You can complete our second opinion email form or call us at 888-649-6892, anytime, day or night. If you call after hours, an operator will take your name and phone number. A Second Opinion Coordinator will return your call the next business day.
The Second Opinion Coordinator is an experienced nurse who can answer your questions and can arrange an appointment time. Aurora St. Luke's will even have your medical records and test results transferred.
Whatever the conclusions you and our physicians reach, there's never any obligation to choose Aurora St. Luke's or our physicians for treatment.
