Meds To Go

Get Your Prescriptions Before Leaving the Hospital

With Meds To Go, you receive your prescriptions at your bedside before you leave the hospital. That way, you can continue treatment immediately and be sure you’re staying on schedule. You also receive a copy of your entire medication list and can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

If you prefer, you or a family member may also pick up your prescriptions on your way home. For your convenience, Aurora pharmacies are located in most Aurora Health Care medical centers.

Medication Disposal

How to Dispose of Unneeded or Expired Medications

Follow these tips to dispose of any unused medications responsibly:

  • Drop off unused medications at our medication disposal locations. Look for the drop boxes in the mail lobby areas of Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, Aurora Sinai Medical Center, Aurora West Allis Medical Center, or Sixteenth Street Parkway Clinic.
Use community pharmaceutical take-back programs. Throughout the year, events are held throughout your community where you can bring unused medications for proper disposal.
  • Take unused or expired medications out of their original packaging. Throw them away in the trash.
  • Mix prescription drugs with undesirable substances, like used cat litter or used coffee grounds and discard in the trash. Mixing medications with these substances reduces the risk that someone else could take your medications unintentionally.
  • Don’t flush unused medications down a sink, drain or toilet, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • For more information about how and where to dispose of unwanted prescription painkillers and other drugs, visit the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Dose of Reality.

Sharps Exchange

Let Us Dispose of Your Filled Sharps Containers — for Free

If you use diabetic supplies or injectable medications, you can take advantage of our sharps container disposal program. Simply bring your filled red sharps container to your preferred Aurora Pharmacy. We’ll dispose of it safely. Sharps containers are also available for purchase at all locations.

Before disposal of your sharps container, please keep these tips in mind:

  • Your sharps container should be at or slightly below the “full” line (about 75% full). Please do not overfill your sharps container.
  • The lock tab on your sharps container should be snapped securely into place.
  • Your Aurora pharmacist will collect the sharps container from you personally. Please do not place your used sharps container on the pharmacy counter.

Behavioral Health Programs

Living With Mental Health or Substance Abuse Problems

For many years, we’ve helped people with mental health or substance abuse issues receive the compassionate care they need. Our pharmacists partner with your doctors to manage your medications and ensure your treatment plan is as effective as possible.

As part of your treatment program, our pharmacists help you learn about your medications and stick to your treatment schedule. We also handle any insurance questions and check to see if your medications are covered by your plan.
