Creating a Milwaukee health & wellness hub
Opening in spring 2027
Aurora Health Care, along with our community partners, is creating The Beacon – a nearly $50M investment to establish a health and wellness hub at the former Wisconsin Avenue School at 27th Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee.
The services and programs that will be offered at The Beacon are being informed by an extensive community input process. Over many months, more than 200 neighbors and over 40 community organizations participated in 14 community listening sessions. More listening sessions are scheduled for spring 2025 and will be ongoing.
The near West Side of Milwaukee, where The Beacon will be located, has a 13-year life expectancy gap compared to just five miles away on the Northeast Side of Milwaukee. We’re working to change that because we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve physical, mental and social wellness, and have the resources to do so in their own neighborhood.
We hope to break ground in spring of 2026 and open in spring of 2027.
The name The Beacon was chosen because of its powerful symbolism as a guiding light. It also speaks to Milwaukee’s rich history where lighthouses and beacons have long served as crucial landmarks, helping people navigate and find their way safely. The Beacon reflects our mission to be a steady and reliable source of support, offering guidance to those in need.
Aurora will bring key partners together at The Beacon to provide access to a variety of experts who will offer the interventions needed most. Learn more about The Beacon and the services and programs we’re working toward.
