Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, I attended college at the University of Denver where I achieved a Master's of Science Degree in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry. During that time, I played Division 1 Ice Hockey and was drafted by the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL), and earned honors as WCHA Student-Athlete of the year. Subsequently, I attended Medical School at the University of Minnesota, completed residency in Occupational Medicine at HealthPartners, received a Masters of Public Health degree at the University of Minnesota, and graduated from the University of St. Thomas Physician Leadership program.
I have also served in several leadership and administrative capacities, including Chief of Medical Specialties, and most recently, Division Chair of Neuroscience. I am one of the founders and leader of the national Impairment Without Disability conference, offered annually through a consortium that includes Essentia Health, Mayo Clinic, and HealthPartners. I am also the cofounder and developer of the SpineX spine rehabilitation program, and for many years, I have served as the Committee Chair of the Opiate Oversight Committee, which is actively involved in addressing the current opiate crisis.
In my practice, I provide joint injections and other procedures associated with acute injury equivalent to urgent care procedures. My special interests include spine rehabilitation and evaluation and system opiate reduction training.
As a treating physician, I was recognized by Duluth Superior Magazine as a top regional physician for seven straight years. In my previous role as Section Chair of Occupational Medicine, I worked to develop close relationships with multiple company and corporate HR departments to develop and implement injury care and wellness programs. I have extensive experience with workers compensation and disability issues.
Outside of work, I enjoy ice hockey, hunting and fishing in the Great Lakes and the Florida Gulf.
