Francis X. Downey, MD, is board certified in general, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. His interests include heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, high-risk cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery. In addition to serving as Surgical Director of the Cardiac Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, he is also an investigator for numerous clinical research studies. At the Milwaukee School of Engineering, he holds an adjunct professor position in the Engineering and Computer Science Department's Perfusion Program.
Dr. Downey was named a Milwaukee Magazine Best Physician in 2000, 2008 and 2012, and an M Magazine Top Physician in 2013. He serves on the Medical Advisory Committee to the Wisconsin Donor Network and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Wisconsin Donor Network.
