Internist V. Shrinivas Murthy, MD, is a physician, research scientist, educator and administrator in health care with more than 40 years of experience with universities, pharmaceutical companies, health maintenance organizations and hospitals/health care systems. Dr. Murthy takes a holistic approach to patient care and believes that patient education is an important component of health care delivery.
Trained in internal medicine, Dr. Murthy served as a primary care doctor for more than three decades with a special interest in helping patients manage high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity. For the past 10 years, Dr. Murthy's focus has been on learning, developing and consulting with patients on preventive care for hypertension, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemias, diabetes and obesity - areas related to cardiovascular disease. Dr. Murthy also teaches on the subject of preventive cardiology to medical students, physicians and other health care providers.
In addition to his internal medicine education and training, Dr. Murthy earned both a postgraduate degree and a doctorate in pharmacology. He has conducted research for more than three decades at various institutions and published in the field of cardiovascular pharmacology and medicine. As lead investigator, he has contributed actively to the development of several drugs used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Currently, Dr. Murthy is director of cardiac rehabilitation at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center and director of preventive cardiology for Aurora Cardiovascular Services. He also serves as a clinical professor of medicine for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. (02/13)
