In 2012, Dr. Murthy was appointed as the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, and is looking forward to further educating patients. He also is the Director of Preventive Cardiology at Aurora Cardiovascular Services and the Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Trained in Internal Medicine, Dr. Murthy has worked as a Primary Care Provider for over three decades. He has been interested in the management of patients with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity. He takes a holistic approach to patient care, believe in teaching people about health and disease and how they can take care of themselves and their loved ones, Dr. Murthy explains. Treat the person, not the disease. He has a special interest in patient education and believes it is an important component of health care delivery.
Over the past decade, he has restricted his practice to learning and developing preventive care in hypertension, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemias, diabetes and obesity, the areas that relate primarily to cardiovascular disease. This is the area that he focuses on while teaching preventive cardiology to Cardiology fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and physicians, as well as other healthcare providers in the community.
Dr. Murthy trained in Cardiovascular Pharmacology from the University of Indore, India (M.D. Pharmacology) and University of Manitoba Canada (Ph.D. Pharmacology). He has conducted research for over three decades at various institutions and published in the field of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Medicine. As lead investigator, he has actively contributed to the development of several medications used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
