"My practice is characterized by a very humane attitude where I enjoy communicating with patients and having a sincere desire to help resolve your pain problem. Pain control is possible, and I believe that most people can enjoy satisfying pain relief, but it requires extensive work (for me and for patients), managed expectations and perseverance."
Board certified in anesthesia and pain medicine, I earned my medical degree from the University of Milan, Italy, where I completed residencies in anesthesiology and physical medicine and rehabilitation. I also completed a fellowship in orthopedic medicine in Paris, France. In addition, I completed a residency in anesthesiology, along with a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia, at Harvard University; Boston, Mass. I also completed a fellowship in pain management from Tuft University, Boston, Mass.
In order to locate what is called the "pain generator" - the original cause of pain - I establish rational diagnostics with modern tools and hands-on clinical techniques. I then develop a plan, together with the patient and their primary care provider, and conduct invasive and non-invasive treatments, customized for the patient and the results of the intervention.
I have observed that most people can obtain satisfying pain relief with conventional specialized pain techniques (epidurals, ryzotomies, nerve and joint blocks, physical therapy and medications); however, many others' lives are loaded with unresolved, uncontrolled pain, for which we need a creative and advanced approach, incorporating innovative pharmacological, interventional and physical techniques (from implants to antineuropathic infusions, from advanced ultrasound procedures to focused spinal endoscopy), an integrated support staff and, realistically, extensive work and patient perseverance.
Outside of the clinic, my interests are traveling - both in the U.S. and abroad - reading; U.S. history; outdoor activities and collaborating with medical volunteer organizations.
