Aurora Health Care leads Wisconsin with most U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Hospitals for Maternity Care’ honors

Annual list helps patients make informed decisions on where to find nation’s best maternal care

Milwaukee – Nine Aurora Health Care hospitals, more than any other health system in Wisconsin, are being recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its annual listing of the “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.” The hospitals are classified as “high performing” and are considered the best maternity hospitals in the nation based on well above average outcomes of quality measures, such as rates of unexpected complications, C-sections and exclusive breast milk feeding.

“This prestigious honor is a reflection of our dedicated experts who understand the importance of supporting expectant parents through one of the most memorable moments in their lives” said Dr. Ann Windsor, vice president of the women’s health at Aurora Health Care. “We are so proud to continuously provide safe, high-quality care to families throughout Wisconsin, while also staying true to our commitment of being a place where parents can feel empowered and well-informed.”

Aurora Health Care’s “high performing” maternity hospitals include:

  • Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay
  • Aurora Medical Center – Grafton
  • Aurora Medical Center – Kenosha
  • Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn
  • Aurora Medical Center – Manitowoc County
  • Aurora Medical Center – Sheboygan County
  • Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee

U.S. News began evaluating maternity care hospitals in 2021, rating hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and submit detailed data to the publication for analysis. The U.S. News Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as cesarean section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, birthing-friendly practices and reporting on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures.

In addition to these “high performing” hospitals, Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area in Marinette, Wisconsin was designated a “Maternity Care Access Hospital" by U.S. News and World Report. This designation is given to hospitals providing quality care to expectant parents in areas that would otherwise have inadequate access to maternity services.

Aurora Health Care hospitals proudly offer comprehensive services for new and expecting parents, including state-of-the-art birthing suites, on-site lactation consultants and classes, support groups for families, and more. These services allow our team to ensure new parents have the best experience possible during this special postpartum period.
