Milwaukee – Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center today announced it has once again received Magnet® designation, the highest honor for nursing care bestowed by the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC). The hospital is receiving the honor for the fifth time in a row and is one of only 15 hospitals in the world to do so.
Magnet Recognition, which is awarded in four-year cycles, acknowledges excellence in nursing, using quality and best practices as primary measures. A Magnet-designated hospital has been recognized by the ANCC for achieving excellence in evidence-based best-practices in more than 35 areas of focus, including infection prevention and patient safety.
“Aurora St. Luke’s is honored to once again have achieved Magnet designation, making us one of only 15 hospitals in the world to hold this honor five consecutive times,” said Marie Golanowski, president, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. “The Magnet Recognition Program® affirms the dedication to excellence of our nurses and leaders, and the impact that has for our patients.”
Receiving Magnet designation for the fifth time places the Aurora St. Luke’s nursing team in an elite group. Less than 1 percent of hospitals in the world have achieved this recognition five times in a row.
“Achieving Magnet designation at Aurora St. Luke’s reflects on how nurses and the entire health care team continue to prepare for and embrace the rapidly evolving health care environment,” said Mary Beth Kingston, chief nursing officer for Advocate Aurora Health. “Magnet designation is the most prestigious recognition bestowed upon a nursing staff and recognizes that our nurses demonstrate excellence in patient care, quality, leadership and professional activities.”
The Aurora St. Luke’s team of nurses has achieved Magnet excellence, while caring for an extremely complex population of patients. The hospital is a quaternary medical campus that treats some of the world’s most challenging cases. Home to more than 500 staffed beds, Aurora St. Luke’s is home to highly specialized programs and research in cardiovascular services, cancer services, neuroscience services, orthopedics, GI, pulmonary, critical care and hyperbaric medicine, and transplant services.
“Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center exemplifies a culture of excellence in nursing practice, working together with physicians and partners across all disciplines to ensure we provide quality patient care and excellent clinical outcomes for our patients,” said Theresa Vos, chief nursing officer, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.
The Magnet Recognition Program® administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the largest and most prominent nurses credentialing organization in the world, recognizes health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and professionalism in nursing practice. The program serves as the gold standard for nursing excellence and provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark for measuring quality of care.
