Health Information Student PPE/EL Placement

Advocate Health offers is a fully remote, virtual Professional Practice Experience (PPE) or Experiential Learning (EL) immersive cohort experience for Health Information/Medical Coding (HI/MC) program students called Circle of Success.

Developed and administered by the Academic & Community Partnerships team at Advocate Health, the Circle of Success curriculum aligns with CAHIIM standards and includes content focused on:

  • Self-reflection
  • Professional behaviors
  • Interprofessional collaboration
  • Real-world preparation for careers in health information

Advocate Health offers this program to provide students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a healthcare setting while gaining valuable exposure to professional expectations and career pathways. Five Circle of Success group cohorts are hosted each calendar year. Live sessions meet over the course of four weeks. Students must attend all scheduled sessions and complete all program requirements to successfully complete the program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a HI/MC program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM)
  • Students in associate degree programs must be in their final semester
  • Students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s degree programs must reach senior level status
  • Must reside in a state where remote student participation is allowed by Advocate Health policy
  • Affiliation agreement process must be started between the educational institution and Advocate Health at time of application and finalized at least one week prior to the start of the experience
