Visiting Residents

Overview

We accept visiting residents from ACGME-accredited programs in the US. Observerships are not allowed through the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office, but may be approved through Aurora Health Care Volunteer Services. Trainees must qualify for the Wisconsin Resident Educational License (REL).

Visiting residents wishing to come to Aurora Health Care to complete an elective rotation should apply at least 90 days prior to the start of their visiting rotation.

You can request an application by emailing the GME office at GME@aurora.org.

Requirements

Aurora Health Care requires a letter of good standing from your residency's program director. The letter must include a statement that your salary and benefits will be covered in full during your stay with us.

Along with the letter of good standing, you’ll need to submit the following:

  • Visiting Resident application
  • Immunizations record
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Copy of medical school diploma
  • Copy of medical license
  • Copy of ECFMG certificate (if foreign medical graduate)
  • Documentation of completed HIPAA and safety training

When You Arrive

Report to your host department and complete any necessary paperwork prior to starting your rotation. The program coordinator will provide necessary login information at that time.

Please note: You MUST bring your photo ID badge from your home institution and wear it at all times during your elective at Aurora Health Care. You will not be able to start the elective without your ID badge.
