Milwaukee – Aurora Health Care has been named one of the nation’s “Most Wired” by Hospitals and Health Networks. Aurora was recognized for successful technology planning and implementation.
“At Aurora, we’re taking advantage of the latest technology to make the patient experience better and improve how we care for populations,” said Preston Simons, chief information officer for Aurora Health Care. “I’m proud of the work our information technology caregivers have done to put us at the leading edge nationally.”
Most Wired weighs health system accomplishments in four distinct areas – technology infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
Aurora has implemented patient-friendly technology including MyAurora, which empowers patients to view, download and transmit patient records, as well as schedule appointments and renew prescriptions. Patients also have the opportunity to go online to make reservations for urgent care visits.
To maximize patient convenience, Aurora offers a variety of telehealth solutions as substitutes for some basic office visits. Patients can communicate with their provider via a secured message or virtual video visit. Aurora has expanded access to some services – including behavioral health – by deploying telehealth technology.
Additionally, Aurora uses technology to gather and interpret patient data, helping to identify health trends and enabling successful outreach. Aurora is further also able to track internal quality metrics monthly across all facilities and delivery venues. “Our consistent review of the information we have – and acting on it – available helps ensure we are providing a consistently excellent care experience,” Simons said. “This process is integral to how we care for patients.”
