Part of Advocate Health
The Aurora Health Care Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship program is one of four such programs offered at Advocate Health sites across its six-state footprint. This program, and those located at Wake Forest University, Atrium Health Care Carolinas, and Atrium Health Care Navicent, support Advocate Health’s firm commitment to the vital importance of hospice and palliative medicine physicians in the continuum of care.
The four programs, though independently administered, have synergy derived from a common mission and a shared commitment to the specialty. Fellows in each program thereby benefit from professional collegiality and have numerous opportunities to interact, share experiences and learn from their counterparts in the other three programs.
Examples include such initiatives as Journal Club, which through virtual connections can assemble fellows from each location, giving them the opportunity to share learnings and exposing them to subject matter experts from across Advocate Health’s wide range of medical disciplines. Research projects, critical requirements in each of the programs, are also supported through the fellows’ ability to connect with populations and data from such esteemed sites as Wake Forest University and the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute.
Access to all four sites also increases possibilities for mentorship and connects fellows to opportunities for post-fellowship positions within Advocate Health. Today, many alumni of these four programs now practice hospice and palliative medicine in Advocate Health hospitals, clinics and practices.
