Minimum Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Applicants must have completed an ACGME or AOA-accredited residency program in Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry and Neurology, Radiology, or Surgery.
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada require certification by the USMLE/FLEX.

Application Process

You must be board-certified or board-eligible in one of the palliative medicine sponsoring specialties to join our fellowship program. Our two available positions will be filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We begin to receive and process applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) of that application cycle year. Please note that we do not accept H-B1 Visas.

To begin your application, please follow the ERAS Fellowships Documents Office instructions. You must register with both ERAS and NRMP to be eligible. Please note you will need to use your AAMC ID from your ERAS application to register for the NRMP.

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement should outline your reason for pursuing a career in palliative medicine, your experiences with palliative care, and a statement of your career goals.
  • USMLE Steps 1, 2 and 3 scores.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation, including one from the Program Director or Department Chair. Letters should indicate that the applicant is personally known to the letter writer, and should include an assessment of medical knowledge, clinical skills, and character.

Timeline

ERAS applications open in July for entry the following July. Applications are preferred by September 1st. Interviews will be held from August to November and Match results will be released in December. We recommend that you request letters of recommendation early in the process as these may sometimes take weeks to obtain.

Applications are reviewed by the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Selection Committee and interviews offered to qualified candidates. The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Selection Committee will make an offer based on applicant qualifications including academic record and potential to excel, clinical skills, devotion to teamwork, interactions during the interview day, leadership and integrity.

Our ACGME-accredited program offers two positions per academic year. Applicants requiring J-1 visa sponsorship are considered. H-1v sponsorship is not required. Interviews are by invitation only.
