Overview

About Cardiovascular Imaging Services at Aurora

Our expert technicians and advanced equipment allow us to obtain incredibly detailed still and moving images of your heart and vascular (circulatory) system. Noninvasive imaging procedures have completely transformed the way Aurora Health Care doctors diagnose and develop treatment programs for cardiovascular disease and other heart and vascular conditions.

Because we have 15 hospitals and 155 clinics throughout eastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois, you have access to Aurora’s most advanced technology and cardiovascular experts at many locations. You can visit our Cardiovascular Imaging Center at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, if that location is convenient for you.

Those designations mean that our cardiovascular imaging specialists offer care that is not available anywhere else in the region. You are in excellent hands with us.
  • Accredited excellence: The prestigious Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) has accredited our echocardiography and nuclear cardiology imaging programs. Outside experts affirm that we provide top-quality care.

Services We Offer

Cardiovascular Scans We Offer

At Aurora, we use the latest imaging equipment available to support our cardiac and vascular care programs.

We are particularly proud to be one of the first health systems in the world using 4-D ultrasound imaging systems (moving images added to 3-D technology) in our imaging center. Learn more about heart ultrasound: echocardiogram.

Some of the cardiovascular imaging procedures we offer at Aurora include:

  • Stress test: Also called a treadmill test, this test is an electrocardiogram (EKG) done while you walk on a treadmill. Your doctor reviews your heart’s electrical activity and blood flow to your heart muscle while you are moving. Learn more about stress tests and EKGs.
  • Nuclear cardiology imaging: An alternative to invasive tests and/or surgery, these tests help your doctor see how your heart and related systems are functioning. A technician injects small amounts of radioactive material into your body to create images of key body parts. Learn more about nuclear cardiology imaging.
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan: This test can help your doctor diagnose heart disease or blood flow problems. The test involves injecting a small amount of a radioactive chemical (radiotracer) into your arm to create images of your body’s metabolic processes. Those processes can include blood flow and oxygen use. Learn more about PET scans.

Learn more about other diagnostic tests that are coordinated through our cardiac electrophysiology and cardiovascular surgery (chest/lungs) divisions.
