Cochlear implants
Find a doctorOur team of ENT specialists may recommend a cochlear implant as a treatment for both children and adults diagnosed with profound hearing loss or deafness.
What is a cochlear implant?

Different from hearing aids, cochlear implants are small electronic devices that consist of an external piece that sits behind the ear, and a second piece placed surgically beneath the skin. These pieces are connected to electrodes that are placed within the cochlea (a part of the inner ear) near the auditory nerve.
Cochlear implants bypass the damaged portions of the ear and send signals directly to the auditory nerve.
While cochlear implants can significantly increase the sensation of sound and the understanding of speech, they cannot cure or reverse hearing loss. These implants also require therapy and practice to learn how to use them.
