Exceptional general surgery services near you
When you’re in need of surgery, you’ll want to partner with an experienced surgical team to guide you. At Aurora Health Care, you can put your trust in the hands of our skilled surgeons and supportive care teams.
Which types of surgeries fall under general surgery?
Our general surgeons have extensive training in a broad array of conditions. This means they can operate on nearly all areas of the body to treat diseases, repair injuries and support overall wellness. They can also diagnose conditions and help determine whether surgery is necessary.
Most often, operations on abdominal organs, the musculoskeletal system or repair of multiple injuries are performed by general surgeons. If a specialized procedure is recommended, our team can help you find the right Aurora specialist.

What methods do general surgeons use?
The approach our surgeons use is always evolving, and we pride ourselves on offering state-of-the-art techniques and technologies to provide excellent outcomes. Procedures are generally categorized as:
- Open surgery, or the traditional way to operate, which involves making an incision large enough to allow direct access to the area being operated on.
- Laparoscopic surgery, a minimally invasive technique using small incisions. A camera is inserted in one hole to help the surgeon see the area, and long, narrow tools are inserted in another hole to perform the surgery.
- Robotic surgery, a kind of laparoscopic surgery. A camera and long, narrow tools are used, and robotic arms use the tools to operate precisely and efficiently. The surgeon controls these tools via computer in the surgery suite.
