When to use telehealth
We’re here to treat your minor symptoms and conditions anytime, anywhere.
It’s the middle of the night and your child wakes up with a stomach bug. You could wait until morning to see if the doctor can squeeze you in for an appointment. Or you could get answers now with a telehealth visit.
Instead of driving for an in-person office or clinic visit, you can get a diagnosis and treatment for many minor illnesses and injuries with a telehealth visit. Just hop on your phone, tablet or computer to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan from a virtual care provider.
If you’re too sick to leave the house or you need care after hours, we offer convenient ways for you to get virtual care when you need it. Here’s a look at some of the conditions covered in video visits and e-visits.
Video visits with your dedicated virtual primary care provider are a great place to start when you’re not feeling well or have a minor health concern. Virtual family medicine providers support you with relationship-based, ongoing care and diagnose and treat conditions just like in-person visits, including:

If you need care during office hours, video visits with your provider could be an option when you’re not feeling well. Pairing virtual visits with your provider and in-person visits could help you monitor your health if you’re managing a chronic disease. Check with your provider’s office to see if a telehealth visit is right for your situation.
When you use Symptom Checker to help you choose the right type of care based on your symptoms, e-visits are an online care offering that may be available to you. E-visits are an option to get virtual care 24/7 for minor illnesses, including cold symptoms, anxiety or depression, headache and head lice for kids. See the list of e-visit conditions we treat in our FAQ.
With telehealth visits, you can get care when it’s convenient, like during your lunch break or after putting the kids to bed. It’s also a convenient option when you need care outside of your in-person provider’s office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Of course, not every visit can be virtual. If you’re experiencing difficulty breathing or other severe symptoms, seek in-person emergency care immediately or call 911.
Telehealth is a convenient option when your child gets sick or if you prefer the convenience of getting ongoing care from home. The idea of getting everyone into the car and off to the doctor’s office might seem overwhelming and time-consuming. And if your little one gets sick during the night, you don’t need to wait for answers until the doctor’s office opens in the morning.
Instead, you can request a Quick Care Video Visit for ages 2+ 24/7, or a pediatric Quick Care Video Visit for kids 2-17 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. You can also schedule a pediatric virtual primary care video visit for kids ages 0-17, available 7 days a week from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
For all visit types, you’ll need to be their legally authorized representative. It's also important to be sure your child is present and visible with you for the duration of the appointment.
Not sure which virtual visit is right for your child? Use Symptom Checker to help you find care based on their symptoms. Your options may include an e-visit, where you’ll fill out a questionnaire and get an email response from the next available provider within an hour – or your child's own provider within 24 hours.

You might be wondering who’s on the other side of a camera during a telehealth visit. With virtual primary care, you’ll see your familiar and established virtual family medicine or pediatric provider with each video visit.
With Quick Care Video Visits and e-visits, you have the option to get care with the next available provider. When you start a Quick Care Video Visit, you’ll meet with the next available pediatric or family medicine telehealth provider for help with minor illnesses or concerns. And when you choose to complete an e-visit after using Symptom Checker, the next available telehealth provider will diagnose you and respond within an hour. You can also submit your e-visit to your virtual primary care or in-person primary care provider, who will respond within 24 hours.
